Inside Information on Slot Machines

There are some myths regarding slot machines held by Slot Players concerning Slot Machines that are just not true. It's important that these myths be dispelled as they can prevent the enjoyment of playing the slot machines.

The first myth that is perpitrated by some slot players is that the casino's can flip a switch in any given slot machine and alter the payout of the machine. The belief is that the casino will make the slot machines payout less over the weekend when there are more players in the casino. The real answer is that this isn't possible. First of all since casinos never close, you would be able to see staff moving from machine to machine opening up each slot machine and flipping that "secret" switch. This process would either take hours upon hours for some of the bigger casinos, or a lot of staff. Somehow I think this in either case would be noticed.
The second thing is that the payoffs are set in the eeprom or the computer ship that controls the machines. There is no easy wa to reprogramm an eeprom, it isn't something that you just do, it takes a lot of effort. Now it is possible to replace an eeprom and it is done all the time. But it's not a simple process and certainly not something that the casino would want to be doing twice a week. The last reason this is not true is the fact that the patrons would stop visiting the casino on weekends if they knew the machines suddenly stopped paying out on thursday night. This is certainly the type of information that would end up all over the internet.

The next myth is that casinos can control hot and cold swings of the slot machines. Again this just isn't true. The Random Number Generator (RNG) controls what symbols appear on the screen and when. The casino has no control over this. It is easy to test the randomness of the RNG and they are tested by most gaming commissions, in the factory before they are put into the machines and when they are in action on the casino floor. So please play knowing that your chance of winning is just as random as the next player.

The basic reason the casino would not mess with the slot machines is profit. The casino is in business to make money and they can only do that if their patrons (you and I) continue to put our money into their games. They have to balance their profit with payoffs so that players actually win money. The casinos have this formula worked out and won't do anything to throw that balance off.
